NLP Rewind Technique- Learn The Basics

By Trevor Johnson

It is said that brain is still the least understood organ of the human body. There are several areas in the human brain whose functions we do not know and have yet to discover. However, despite the odds, the psychologists have come up with several techniques and therapies that help ease the mental and emotional stress or phobias of a person. The rewind technique is one such therapy for removing the post-traumatic stress or phobias based on a therapy called the Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP).

Each one of us suffers from a certain type of phobia. Some of us are afraid of snakes, some of us are afraid of height or water. For some of us, these phobias become so severe that they disrupt our normal lives. This therapy though a very rare one is effectively used for treating phobias.

While reliving the incident the patient visualizes or sees the incident again and from a different perspective. It is like asking the patient to view the video of the incident. Except that it would be his mind that would be generating the video and it would be the mind's eye viewing the video.

It helps the patient is the sense that he doesn't have to actually use words to tell the psychologist that embarrassing or traumatic incidents again and again. Secondly, the patient can actually detach himself from the anxiety he feels at the time when his phobia triggers.

A great thing about this technique is that the patients who take this therapy do not have to explain in words to the psychologist about the traumatic incidents. They just have to visualize themselves. It saves them from the embarrassment of retelling the incidents again and again.

Although, the rewind technique has yet to become common but the technique is a promising one. It is great for a patient in the sense that it becomes effective in a short time and the patient is saved from the monotonous task of repeating embarrassing incidents that started the phobia to the psychologist. The patient can do his therapy himself with the psychologist just instructing. - 31969

Curing Disorders With Hypnotism

By Timothy Greensland

Hypnotism is the practice of a hypnotherapist guiding a subject into a meditative state. Unfortunately there is a lot of confusion around about what is and is not hypnotism. Ever since the beginning of hypnotism, people have been fascinated by it.

People who practice hypnotism claim that the being hypnotized allows the subjects mind to become more easily influenced by an external force, certainly more easily than the patient would accept these external force and suggestions than they normally would under their normal state of mind. The goal then of hypnosis can be to get the subject or patients mind into a state that will more readily receptive to a treatment for a disorder.

Many people react to hypnosis differently. Surveys suggest that approximately 20% of the population cannot be hypnotized, and that 25% of the population can be hypnotized quite easily. The remainder of the population fall somewhere in between. This proves that whilst it can be a very useful tool, hypnosis might not be useful to everyone, but its difficult to tell who can and can;t be hypnotized until they try it.

The explanation above sounds a little complex, so an example is in order.

Lets take the example of a chain smoker. One way that a hypnotist may treat this smoker is to first hypnotize the smoker into a deep meditative state. Once in this meditative state the hypnotherapist will ask the subject about all the reasons why they smoke and all of the negative thoughts that they have about smoking and the negative affects that smoking has on their life. The hypnotist will then ask the smoker to think of good thoughts that they would experience if they gave up smoking. These thoughts are repeated as part of the therapy and these thoughts are also spoken out loud. In this way the hypnotist helps to change the perceptions of the patient about smoking.

For successful treatment, the patient must continue to actively focus on the positive and negative perceptions they experienced during hypnosis after they have finished hypnosis. This can be done either on your own at home, or more effectively with repeat treatments with a qualified hypnotherapist.

Quitting smoking using hypnotism has worked for a large variety of people, many of whom go on to recommend the practice to their friends and family.

Don't let fear of the unknown or the fear of trying something new hold you back from trying a treatment that really could change your life. Many people have tried this form of therapy and found it works for them, it could work for you as well. - 31969

John Grinder And Development Of Neuro Linguistic Programming

By Ingrid Preube

John Grinder served as a captain in the US Army Special Forces, then later for the US Intelligence agency. Before this, in the late 1960's, he graduated with a degree in psychology from the University of San Francisco and a PhD from the University of California in San Diego in Linguistics in the early 1970's. He went on to co-found Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) with Dr. Richard Bandler.

Grinder was appointed to the position of professor of Linguistics at the newly formed University of California in Santa Cruz. He has published many books and papers, two examples of which are On Deletion Phenomena in English (1972) and Guide to Transformational Grammar (1973). He is considered to be an expert on the subject of syntax within the broader field of linguistics.

After being invited to participate in therapy groups with psychology student Richard Bandler, John became aware of linguistic patterns used by the therapists. John went on to co-found Neuro Linguistic Programming with Bandler.

Neuro Linguistic Programming was largely based on the language patterns used effectively by the hypnotherapist Milton H. Erickson and therapists Virginia Satir and Fritz Perls and the theory of transformation grammar. Based on this John Grinder and Richard Bandler came up with the model of Neuro Linguistic Programming.

The Neuro Linguist Programming model was developed even further using books published by these same therapists and later became the foundation of NLP. Grinder has also co-written many other books on NLP and its practical applications and theory.

The self confidence gained by practitioners of NLP has enabled many to become more successful in both their personal and professional lives. Many people have trouble believing just how radically their lives have been changed for the better after using the principals of Neuro Linguistic Programming. The changes are often even visible to co-workers and family members who are unaware of your learning NLP techniques.

The unique techniques created by John Grinder and Richard Bandler will help you use your mind to achieve more positive results. They will also help you achieve results by gaging the personality of those around you. This in turn, couple with the coordination of your own thoughts, feelings and behavior, will help you achieve your goals.

Using NLP you will be able to align your words and actions and this will help you to get your message across to your target audience in a far more effective and direct way. - 31969
